Virtual Production

Masters of the Air

Dimension and DNEG 360 were part of a team of studios providing virtual production for the epic aerial sequences of WWII bombing crews for AppleTV+’s series “Masters of the Air”.

The show’s cast were filmed in a B17 cockpit attached to motion rigs within an LED volume, displaying pre-rendered flying and battle scenes. This meant actors were immersed in the scene, had accurate sightlines, as well as interactive lighting.

We’re proud to have created all virtual environments for the air and ground LED sequences in Unreal Engine, including volumetric clouds, lighting, and look development, contributing to the epic visuals of this show.

Kelle Long, Writer, The Credits

“Virtual Production LED walls, like those used on Masters of the Air, are changing how VFX scenes are filmed by immersing the performers in simulated environments.”
