Glastonbury Festival

Terminal 1 VR experience

Terminal 1 is an immersive space at Glastonbury Festival designed to spread the message that “No Human is Illegal”. Dimension partnered with Glastonbury’s accessibility team to create a VR walkthrough of Terminal 1 so everyone could be a part of it.

Made available for the festival’s guests with mobility needs, the digital experience featured a full walkthrough of the Terminal 1 experience in 180 degree VR. The team were on site the day before the experience opened to the festival to shoot the content before editing and processing the media to deliver the VR experience within 24 hours so it could be made available to guests via Meta Quest 3 headsets.

Dimension Studio, who has long been a partner for brands looking to deploy VR experiences to better engage with audiences, shot the VR experience’s content in 8K at 60fps, using the Canon RR5ii camera with a VR 180 5.2mm fisheye lens.

Guests taking part in Glastonbury’s Terminal 1 were presented with a bold and moving vision across five cabins, each confronting a contemporary issue connected to migration and all built using salvaged materials from the demolished Heathrow Terminal 1. Designed by a range of national and international artists, the cabins are brought to life by live performers who guide visitors through the emotionally charged environment, including at the entrance where participants must answer a question from the official UK Government Citizenship Test in order to gain entry.

Dimension created the most incredible VR experience. They found a way to replicate the intensity and emotion of Terminal in an experience that was unique. I did both and can say there were some ways that the VR version was even more intense.
