Based on Richard McGuire’s graphic novel, Robert Zemeckis’ “Here” tells the story of a single location across time, from prehistoric landscapes to a modern living room — all captured from a single, fixed camera angle.
The film required close collaboration of DNEG for visual effects, Metaphysic for the de-aging of stars Tom Hanks and Robin Wright, and Dimension and DNEG 360 for virtual production.
The production used a 30-foot by 15-foot LED wall visible through the living room window, showcasing 85 different periods built by our team in Unreal Engine.
Dimension and DNEG 360 created a significant library of assets, in particular vehicles, to add authenticity to the many periods. The team developed a realtime vehicle system in Unreal Engine, alongside trees, foliage, and seasonal weather systems.
