Last year beauty brand NARS unleashed the Power Players – a trio of branded MetaHuman avatars, living in a virtual world made in Unreal Engine. Last month, the avatar ambassadors stepped out in style at SEPHORiA in NYC.

The SEPHORiA beauty conference saw the Power Players host guests and share Powermatte lipstick recommendations through an immersive portal.

Crafted by a team of skilled Unreal Artists and brought to life using magical motion capture, this first-of-its-kind live experience dazzled visitors with a natural, lifelike interaction.

NARS’ Power Players: Realtime Avatars with a Human Touch

We collaborated with Eva Herzigová and her talent agency Unsigned to take a fashion-forward step into virtual worlds - enabling the supermodel to take ownership of her digital identity.

Eva was scanned and her MetaHuman avatar was crafted by our character artists, who styled her virtual clothing, hair, makeup and movement.

As a MetaHuman, Eva is ready for endless real-time possibilities - from modelling digital wearables in virtual fashion shows to immersive VR or 3D browser-based experiences to games and live broadcasts to traditional editorial.

The worlds of sport, fashion, and Web3 converged at New York Fashion Week 2022. Dimension was commissioned by PUMA and FTR to transform Brazilian football legend, Neymar Jr, into a lifelike 3D avatar for an unforgettable show. 

At the physical FUTROGRADE NYFW show, Neymar’s avatar entered the spotlight on colossal LED walls, while on the runway, real-life dance performances met a star-studded cast of sportsperson models. 

Neymar’s virtual twin also graced the immersive PUMA Black Station, a virtual web experience crafted by FTR. It brought together the digital and physical with exclusive NFTs and physical limited edition sneakers.

Our 3D-capture rig enabled us to recreate a precise likeness using the Scan to MetaHuman pipeline in Unreal Engine. His distinctive tattoos were handcrafted and seamlessly mapped to his MetaHuman body, and brought to life using motion capture data.

This convergence of virtual and physical, intertwined with blockchain technology, cements PUMA as a cultural behemoth. We're proud to have helped craft new ways for sport and fashion to evolve and mutate across all platforms.

With Fashion Weeks around the world forced online during the pandemic, Balenciaga imagined the next generation of virtual catwalk shows. 

Solution

A 3D web-based game that takes players on an interactive journey based on “mythological pasts and projected futures”. It explores the Fall 2021 collection modelled by 50 volumetric characters, all captured on Dimension/MRMC's Polymotion Stage.

Result

Balenciaga's Afterworld blazed a trail for fashion in 2020. This futuristic fusion of volumetric capture and video gaming opened the industry's eyes to the endless possibilities of using realistic avatars and game engines such as Unreal Engine.

Celebrating H&M x Simone Rocha’s collaborative collection, volumetric video was selected to bring art, fashion, and iconic figures into guests’ homes through AR.

Fashionistas worldwide activated a pop-up book filled with prints by painter Faye Wei Wei and QR codes to launch a visually stunning AR display of volumetric performances by the likes of Helena Bonham-Carter and Kaia Gerber.

The project was produced by Gainsbury & Whiting in partnership with Unit9 using Microsoft Mixed Reality Capture primarily at Dimension’s London studio, supported by our friends at Metastage in LA.

H&M x Simone Rocha

Three and agency Pretty Green looked to celebrate the brand's 5G mobile roll-out with a global fashion first. 

By combining Three's 5G network with Dimension's volumetric capture technology, model Adwoa Aboah witnessed herself walk the catwalk as an AR hologram at London Fashion Week.

The fully immersive catwalk show wowed the front row and viewers on social, and truly pushed the boundaries of volumetric video and WebAR.
